The year ahead in the fight against sweatshops

It's been an impact-filled year for Love Fashion Hate Sweatshops. Since its launch in September, the campaign has brought national attention to the scandal of sweatshops. Our string of successes culminated with our visit to 10 Downing Street, where we handed in a large multi-coloured t-shirt bearing the images of many of the 16,419 people who supported our campaign.

We thank all of our supporters for helping to make the campaign such a success.

What's next for Love Fashion Hate Sweatshops? In 2010 we will step up our efforts to ensure the UK government takes action against British corporations that rely on overseas sweatshops. Our research has demonstrated that despite voluntary codes of conduct, UK retailers continue to source their garments from factories in China, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka and other poor countries that violate the rights of workers.

Many thousands of you have already joined our call for an end to the draconian conditions facing workers in the developing world. In the year ahead we will work with you towards making sure that the government commits to guaranteeing workers' rights - and ensures standards of decent work for the people who make our clothes.
